Carley Emerson has served as the director of the Office of Human Research Ethics at UNC-Chapel Hill since 2022. As director, Carley is responsible for assuring that the actions of the OHRE are done in compliance with federal, state, local, and institutional regulations, guidelines, and procedures. She oversees 31 OHRE staff members and Carolina’s six IRBs, and other working groups. Carley has almost 25 years of experience in the field, including 15 years in a director role of a human subjects research program. Carley is a mom of 2 and likes to hike, going to music festivals, listen to podcasts, and watch her kids play sports and play music.
