Dr Penny S Reynolds, PhD is a Research Assistant Professor and consulting statistician in the Department of Anesthesiology, University of Florida College of Medicine and the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. She obtained her PhD in Zoology & Statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison USA. She was awarded the 2021 UK Animals in Science-Education Trust 3Rs Prize, and with colleagues Maggie Hull and Elizabeth Nunamaker the 2022 AAALAC International Global 3Rs Award for “significant and innovative contributions to the 3Rs of animal-based research”. She is a published advocate for the improvement of clinical and animal-based research through application of statistically-based experimental design principles and quality improvement strategies. She was a member of the international ARRIVE 2.0 Working group and a co-author of the ARRIVE 2.0 Reporting Guidelines and Explanation and Elaboration document. Her recent book “A Guide to Sample Size for Animal-based Studies” (Wiley-Blackwell 2023) is a systematic approach to statistically-based principles for 'right-sizing' and planning animal-based experiments in a 3Rs context.
