Kate Ziegerer, DVM, is a Veterinary Medical Officer (VMO) for the VA VHA Office of Research Oversight (ORO) Research Safety and Animal Welfare (RSAW) Team. Kate received her bachelor degrees in biology and philosophy from the University of Missouri-Columbia and her veterinary degree from Tufts University. Kate began her Federal career in 2004 with USDA Animal Plant Inspection Service, first in Veterinary Services (VS) as a field VMO and then as an Analytical Epidemiologist and Senior Risk Analyst with VS Centers for Epidemiology and Animal Health. In 2007, Kate joined Animal Care, peforming animal welfare inspections in a variety of settings throughout the US including research facilities; large scale commercial dog breeders and dealers; animal transporters; and exotic animal dealers, exhibitors, and auctions. In 2016, Kate joined ORO’s RSAW Team and became a faculty member with the Interagency Collaborative Animal Research Education (ICARE) Project.
