Mahesh Pillai, MD, PhD, CIP, is the Director, Research Compliance at The University of Toledo. He oversees the human research protection program and Institutional Review Board (IRB), animal care and welfare program and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and biosafety administration and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), dual use research of concern and Institutional Review Entity (IRE), controlled substance and dangerous drugs, human stem cell research oversight (HSCRO) committee and conflict of interest (COI) review comittee. He serves as a voting member on the IRBs, IACUC, IBC, IRE and HSCRO. He has clinical, research and teaching experience. He leads outreach for his department and is involved in providing education for medical, graduate, and undergraduate students, faculty, and staff. His research interests include obesity medicine and research compliance. He has experience building cross functional teams of individuals with diverse strengths.
