With over 20 years of experience at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Nia serves as a Senior Program Officer in the Division on Earth and Life Sciences, Board on Life Sciences. She is also the Director of the Roundtable on Science and Welfare of Animals Involved in Research, guiding initiatives that advance understanding of animal welfare in research settings.
Nia’s background spans research, project management, and strategic policy support in nonprofit science and technology, delivering impactful, data-driven insights that shape policy and drive scientific progress. She earned her M.S. from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where her research explored the effects of hypoxia, reoxygenation, nicotine, and cotinine on lung fibroblast cell prostaglandin production, and a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Morgan State University.
