Dr. Christine Happel is a Program Officer at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) in the Office of Special Initiatives. Dr. Happel oversees the NIH Common Fund’s Extracellular RNA Communication program, the RADx-rad Exosome-based Non-traditional Technologies Toward Multi-Parametric and Integrated Approaches for SARS-CoV-2 program, and is a Program Director for the NIH Common Fund’s Complement Animal Research In Experimentation (Complement-ARIE) program. She is also the scientific lead for NCATS small business programs in the area of extracellular vesicles and exRNA. Prior to joining NCATS in 2019, Happel served as the assistant project director for the NIH AIDS Reagent Program. She completed a postdoctoral fellowships at Johns Hopkins University and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). She has received numerous awards including a NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship, an Intramural AIDS Research Fellowship, a NIH Director's award and multiple NCATS DIrector's awards. Dr. Happel received her doctorate in molecular biology and genetics from the Temple University School of Medicine.
