Christopher Sao Pedro, BA, CPIA, RLATG, IACUC and Animal Welfare Manager, Sanofi
Christopher has been in the pharmaceutical and biomedical field for over 20 years. He has vast experience in animal welfare and implementing efficiency in IACUC functions and facility operations within the R&D perimeter. He has managed Sanofi's IACUC for preclinical research for the past six years. He is also involved in a 3Rs strategy group internally to promote refinement, reduction, and replacmenrt for animals used in research. He has developed training modules for IACUC members in regulations, facility inspections, online animal databases, and protocol review. He also has been involved with New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to produce better science and reduce animal use in research. Christopher collaborates globally with other stakeholders at Sanofi to monitor animal welfare and other aspects of global compliance and policy. He performs animal welfare and compliance audits internally and externally with CROs. In addition, he is responsible for the triennial AAALAC site visits. He is also a key stakeholder in the company for the annual celebration of Biomedical Research Awareness Day (BRAD). Christopher loves to cook and bake, is a devoted aquarist for his African cichlids, and enjoys restoring old pinball machines as a hobby.
