Maria Davila is the Director of the Office of Research Integrity and Compliance (ORIC) at Emory University and also serves as the Deputy Research Integrity Officer (RIO). In her role as Director, she oversees compliance plans for various HRPP offices and provides educational resources to the research community. She leads the team responsible for reviewing allegations of research misconduct, supporting the RIO in this process. Previously, Maria was the Associate Director for the Emory IRB, where she worked for 11 years. During her tenure, she led the Education and Quality Assurance team, reviewing reportable events submitted to the IRB. Maria played a key role in developing guidance documents and worksheets, enhancing the internal SOPs system to boost staff effectiveness and efficiency. She also improved educational offerings by creating new tools and implementing monthly webinars to keep the Emory research community informed. Before her roles at ORIC and the Emory IRB, Maria worked in Orthopaedics Research at the University of Miami and Emory University for eight years. She was involved in a wide range of studies, from minimal risk studies to Phase I-IV clinical trials, and helped develop quality assurance procedures. Additionally, she served as a microsurgery instructor for residents and fellows. Maria holds a foreign medical degree from Ecuador and a Master’s in Bioethics from Emory University.
