Commander Haran, a highly accomplished officer hailing from West Hartford, Connecticut, has built an impressive career in the Navy, marked by exceptional academic and professional achievements. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Miami, a Master of Science from Barry University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Temple University. CDR Haran further expanded his expertise with certifications from the U.S. Naval War College and Johns Hopkins University, as well as a data science certificate from the Naval Postgraduate School.
CDR Haran began his Navy career in 2009 as a directly commissioned Naval Officer in the Medical Service Corps. Throughout his career, he has held diverse roles such as Human Systems Integration Officer, Deputy Department Head of Biomedical Research, and acting Technical Director. He has also served as Deputy Director for Operational and Undersea Medicine and Program Manager for the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Special Programs Research Enterprise Portfolio. Most recently, he held the position of Section Head of Data Analytics and Assessments at the Navy Culture and Force Resilience Office.
With 15 years of experience in Human Research Protection, CDR Haran has served on multiple Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and held positions such as Vice-Chair of the NSMRL IRB and Human Research Protection Official at NMRC. His certifications and accolades reflect his exceptional contributions and expertise, including the Military Health System Research Symposium Award for Excellence in Outstanding Research Accomplishment (2015) and the NSMRL Dr. Edward Cudahy Excellence in Science Award (2016, 2017). His decorations include multiple Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Navy Achievement Medals, and the Meritorious Service Medal, among other unit awards, recognizing his dedication and impact within the Navy.
