Christopher S. Keator, PhD, currently serves as the Assistant Dean for Laboratory Animal Resources at WMU Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine (WMed). He served as the Founding Chair of the WMed IACUC from 2016 through 2023, and since 2016 has also served as the IACUC Coordinator on three different occassions. As IACUC Chair, he negotiated the Assurance with NIH OLAW (in 2016 and 2020) and led the WMed program to full accreditation with AAALAC (in 2019 and 2022). Chris joined the PRIMR IACUC Conference Planning Committee in 2022, and since Fall 2022 he has also served as an Ad Hoc Specialist with AAALAC International. He is a broadly trained reproductive physiologist and has conducted both basic and translational research with domestic livestock and lab animals, including rhesus macaques and immunodeficient mice; his current research examines the physiological effects of enrichment items on rodent health and wellbeing. He was originally recruited to WMed in 2014 to develop an endocrine-reproductive course for second-year medical students and was promoted in 2023 to Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. He earned his MS and PhD in Reproductive Physiology, Animal Sciences at the University of Connecticut and completed postdoctoral studies in the Division of Reproductive Sciences at the Oregon National Primate Research Center.
