Michael Linke, PhD, serves as the Chair of the StrokeNet Central IRB and is the SMART IRB Program Director for Education and Training.
Dr. Linke earned his PhD in Pathology from the University of Cincinnati in 1993, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in Pulmonary Biology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Research Foundation in 1995. He retired from the Cincinnati VA Medical Center in 2018 as a Health Science Officer after more than 30 years of service, where his research focused on Pneumocystis pneumonia.
Currently, Dr. Linke is an Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He chaired the University of Cincinnati Institutional Review Board (IRB) for over 20 years. In 2014, he led the formation of the StrokeNet Central IRB, which the NIH established to support clinical trials advancing acute stroke treatment, stroke prevention, and recovery. Under his leadership, the StrokeNet Central IRB now oversees 10 StrokeNet studies at more than 900 research sites.
Additionally, Dr. Linke heads the SMART IRB Training and Educational Leadership Team (TELT), which coordinates and drives the educational initiatives of the SMART IRB platform.
