T. Howard Stone, JD, LLM, CIP, Director, Central Policy & Regulatory, Enterprise Protection, Regulatory, Outreach, and Systems (EPROS), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Stone's major duties and responsibilities include regulatory policy and program oversight in support of the protection of human participants and promoting compliance with data privacy laws and regulations; federal policy coordination with federal agency partners on the development and implementation of research policy; consultation on research processes and serving as the final authority on research policy questions; and supervising and directing the activities of the Office of Central Policy and Regulatory, EPROS, VHA. Previously, Stone worked as a leader and program manager for state, federal and university human research protection programs and offices whose collective mission is to protect human study participants in accordance with federal and other laws and policies. Stone's current plans include contributing towards improving Veterans’ access to beneficial research through related policy responsiveness and research community preparedness. Stone has published widely in the professional research ethics, research regulatory and legal fields, and has been a past contributor to PRIM&R activities, including presentations and workshops.
